Johnny Weiger Named Grand Marshal
for the 2012 Race to the Flag 5K
The
3rd annual Race To The Flag 5K has named its Grand Marshal -- Johnathan Weiger, a fourteen-year-old
freshman at Montini Catholic High School. Johnny has always lived life to the fullest. He is an honors students, has a passion for football, loves playing X-BOX, and has a strong suit for math and science. Currently, he hope to pursue a career in engineering.
Johnny was diagnosed with Chronic
Myleiod Leukemia and an acute blast crisis last December. Johnny needs a
bone marrow transplant, and fortunately, a donor has been found through BeTheMatch.com.
However, Johnny will have a long, tough battle ahead of him. Johnny will have to be treated with chemotherapy radiation before the transplant. After being in isolation for 6 weeks at Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago, he will be in isolation for another 100 days prior to the transplant. To avoid bacteria, he will need to be on a diet made up of single serving portions of frozen and canned foods. The Race
To The Flag Committee salutes Johnny’s courage as he begins this difficult process.
Johnny and the RTTF committee are committed to raising awareness for bone marrow transplants and St. Jude
Children’s Hospital. For more information, contact Race Coordinator Mike Ramsey at info@racetotheflag.org or 630-878-4507.
